Bragdøya – A Memory of Childhood Joys
Bragdøya, a summer estate near Christianssand where my aunts lived, stands for me as an oasis of childhood innocence and happiness. I remember the place so vividly that it feels as though I visited the island only yesterday.
A Stage for Play and Culture
At Bragdøya, it was not only the beauty of nature that prevailed but also the joy of culture. In the staircase of the house, there was a small theater stage, and I imagine that the family gathered there for Christmas plays and gatherings, as was customary during my childhood. I carried this love for theater with me from my upbringing in Christianssand; as a child, I wrote and performed plays and dreamed for a long time of becoming an actress. My theatrical tendencies found expression in costumes and play, much to the astonishment of the entire household.
A Time Long Gone
Bragdøya was a place that blended nature with human creativity, where the sea and sky reflected the joy of fellowship and imagination. Though I cannot return there physically, the memories live on in me as a symbol of the freedom and beauty of childhood’s world.
